Interviewing UX Researchers

Ever wonder what to ask when interviewing a UX researcher? Here are some questions I love exploring with candidates.

Imagine you have 3 different UI options and want to know which one is best. What would you do?

What is your research process?

Part 1:

Can you give an example of a good UX you have had recently on a website or app?

Part 2:

Now, imagine you were tasked with finding the top 10 ux issues in that website or app. How would you go about this?

How would you handle it when people are skeptical of the value of user research?

Imagine someone on the team has a strong opinion about how a certain design should  be implemented, but you disagree. How would you approach the situation?

How do you know when a project is done?

When it comes to usability testing, how do you know what is a good question to ask the participants?

Let's say a UI design was updated on our live website. How would you measure whether the new design improved UX or not?

Can you share a project you completed in which you feel you made an impact?

How would you persuade business stakeholders to approve a particular design idea?

What are the weakness of personas? How would you overcome those weaknesses?

How would you design a usability test for testing how our financial services work on Alexa, Siri, or Google?

What would be your process for creating a user journey?

What is your favorite usability test and why?

Do you like working in moderated or unmoderated tests more and why?

If you had to pick between qualitative and quantitative data for improving UX, which would you choose and why?

How would you recruit new participants for usability testing?

How would you define metrics for measuring fun and satisfaction with a website?
